Progressive death metal from Italy, not a scene which instantly springs to mind despite the reborn of Sadist. So it comes to me as a pleasant surprise when I listened for the first time to the three songs of this small demo. The music is varied and skilfully written but on the other side it doesn’t get too exciting. «Affliction» is a kind of encounter between melodic (Swedish orientated) death metal and progressive backgrounds. The strange (sometimes seventies orientated) keys lines bring in the traditional progressive atmosphere and the harmony guitar lines coupled with the usual guttural vocal works make names such as Dark Tranquillity / In Flames come to mind. «Affliction» is thus a good debut but it’s not already groundbreaking either… a standard release which clearly demonstrates Nacom’s musicians have the potential to make the whole thing work out on a higher step.

Una progressive death metal band dall'Italia, di certo non una scena che risalta nella mente a parte per la rinascita dei Sadist. Quindi è stata una piacevole sorpresa quando ho ascoltato per la prima volta le tre canzoni contenute in questo demo. La musica è variegata e scritta con abilità ma d'altro canto non è niente di esaltante. «Affliction» è una specie d'incontro tra death metal melodico (orientato verso quello svedese) e richiami progressive. Le strane (e a volte seventies) partiture di tastiera contribuiscono alla creazione di atmosfere progressive e le linee armoniche di chitarra in coppia con l'usuale voce gutturale ricordano nomi come Dark tranquillity e In flames. «Affliction» è pertanto un buon debutto ma non ancora un lavoro terremotante... Un'uscita che dimostra chiaramente che i musicisti dei Nacom hanno il potenziale per migliorare il tutto di un ulteriore passo.
